ABOUT GreenCore Research

At Greencore Research, we help UK businesses and public sector organizations transition away from outdated, oil-based energy systems towards cleaner, more cost-effective, and sustainable alternatives.

We start with free digital audits that analyze your fuel usage, supply contracts, and infrastructure. Using this data, we identify better solutions whether it's switching to lower-cost fuel suppliers, exploring alternative fuels like HVO or B100 biodiesel, or unlocking access to government-funded upgrades.

Our aim is simple:

  • Save you money through smarter contracts and supplier routes

  •  Make you greener by reducing reliance on fossil fuels

  • Close the loop by supporting the creation of a circular energy and tech economy

Whether you're a school, care home, agricultural business, manufacturer, or rural institution we help you make informed, financially smart, and environmentally responsible decisions.

Our work supports national goals for decarbonization while putting real savings and long-term resilience into the hands of the organizations that need it most.

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

At Greencore Research, we believe that every organisation deserves fair, transparent, and sustainable energy solutions.

The shift to greener energy isn’t just about reducing emissions it’s about building resilience, unlocking funding, and future-proofing operations. Whether it’s public institutions like schools and care homes, or private industries like farming and food production, the pressure is growing to lower carbon footprints and adopt cleaner technologies. We exist to make that shift easier, faster, and more cost-effective.

The fuel oil market is largely unregulated, meaning prices can vary significantly between suppliers even for the same product and delivery location. Once an organisation commits to a supplier and stops monitoring the market, prices often increase quietly over time. It’s common for organisations to overpay by thousands simply due to outdated contracts or passive renewals.

We break this cycle by auditing your current pricing and suppliers, benchmarking your costs against the wider market, negotiating fair and competitive fuel contracts with trusted partners, and offering alternative fuel options such as HVO or B100 that support both cost savings and environmental goals.
Our mission is to put you back in control of your energy supply saving you money now, and helping you move confidently toward a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Boiler Ban Timetable: The Transition Away from Oil Heating

The UK Government has confirmed a national phase-out of new fossil fuel heating systems for properties that are off the gas grid, including those currently using oil, LPG, or coal.

Key Dates & What They Mean

  • From 2035 – Homes off the gas grid
The UK government plans to phase out the installation of new oil and LPG boilers in off-grid homes. After this point, new heating systems are expected to be low-carbon options such as heat pumps or other approved technologies.

  • From around 2035 – Commercial and public buildings
There is no separate earlier legal ban date (such as 2028) confirmed in law for commercial or public buildings. However, the same overall direction applies:
schools, care homes, estates, farms, and commercial sites are expected to move away from fossil-fuel heating as part of the national Net Zero plan, with 2035 seen as the key horizon for change.

Replacing existing boilers

There is currently no law forcing working oil or LPG boilers to be removed immediately.
However, when systems reach the end of their life, government policy strongly encourages replacement with low-carbon heating — and future rules may limit or discourage like-for-like fossil-fuel replacements.

Why This Matters

This transition is part of the UK’s Heat and Buildings Strategy, supported by the Energy Act 2023 and led by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ).
This does not mean every oil boiler must be ripped out overnight.
But it does mean that continuing to rely on oil heating will become harder over time.

You can expect increasing pressure from:

  • Rising and volatile fuel prices
  • Fewer engineers and spare parts for oil systems
  • Tighter energy and carbon standards
  • Greater scrutiny from regulators, insurers, and funders

What You Should Do Now

Waiting until change is forced will likely mean higher costs, rushed decisions, and limited options.
Planning early allows you to:
  • Access grants and funding while schemes are still generous
  • Spread costs and plan around operations
  • Reduce long-term energy risk
  • Improve EPC ratings and compliance
  • Strengthen environmental credibility

The organisations that prepare early will move on their own terms.
Those that wait will be forced to move under pressure.
